Home of Flippy Flange Creativity!
I have always called Flanges - Flippies. So the name is a combination of both - Flippy Flanges. A Flippy Flange is a folded piece of fabric nested into a seam. The result is a straight edge for a narrow insert of color. A flippy can be any width and can add a subtle highlight or a contrasting highlight. I first learned about Flippy Flanges at a quilt retreat where quilters were using them in borders of a quilt. I loved the color and the effect of a perfectly straight narrow line. I found I really liked the accent of the Flippy and I started to use Flippy Flanges in many of my quilt designs. Sometimes to:
- highlight a block or elements in a block,
- create a shadow,
- separate busy prints, or
- use a bold pop of color.
I've written patterns for many of my Flippy Flange quilts and would love to share the patterns and classes with you! Sign up for pattern updates and I will share a video on using Flippy Flanges in Borders. You will see how easy and effective they are! Happy Sewing!
